Departmental Lecturer in Japanese Social Anthropology
The Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies, Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA), University of Oxford, seeks applications for a full-time, fixed term, Departmental Lectureship in Japanese Social Anthropology.

The role is available for 12 months, to commence between 1st September and 1st October 2023.
The Departmental Lecturer in Japanese Social Anthropology will be responsible for lecturing, tutoring, and supervising postgraduate students; and conducting independent research.
Primarily, the successful candidate will teach a course on Japanese anthropology, which attracts students from several degree programmes, assist in the teaching and supervision for the Japanese Studies MPhil and MSc dissertations, and provide a small number of lectures and tutorials for the undergraduate East Asia Survey course (4 sessions). Depending on their expertise, they may also be asked to contribute to a team-taught research methods module.
The successful candidate will be given an opportunity to contribute to research, research facilitation, and academic administration of the Nissan Institute and to the rich diversity of the academic and social communities at the School and the Institute, while exchanging ideas and supporting all OSGA activities more broadly. She/he will engage in assessment and university examining.
About You:
We welcome applicants holding a completed PhD/DPhil in a field pertaining to Japanese social anthropology or evidence that a relevant doctoral thesis will be submitted by the starting date of the post. Applicants should be familiar with the existing literature and research in the field; have a strong publication record reflecting the career stage as well as sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject to develop course materials. The successful candidate shall be able to conduct advanced research using Japanese language skills. Experience of teaching qualitative and/or quantitative research methods courses to postgraduate students would be advantageous.
